|
Magnus Eklund. RMT, CYT is a Structural Integrator, massage therapist/teacher and yoga teacher, originally from Sweden, now residing in Jackson, MS. He has received his training in the healing arts over the last 15 years, both in the USA and Sweden. Magnus holds a degree (1995) from Lillsved Gymnastic Institute of Higher Learning, Varmdo (Stockholm region), Sweden, in Recreational and Sports Leadership. His education included exercise physiology, sports administration, anatomy and physiology, coaching, psychology, and kinesiology. He is certified in KMI Structural Integration by Tom Myers.
Growing up in athletics in Sweden, Magnus experienced firsthand classical Swedish massage in sports as a tool to improve performance and to recover from competition. In the early 1990's, Magnus came to the United States to play college tennis. After going back to and completing his degree in Sweden, he came back to play and teach tennis professionally in Florida and Mississippi. Magnus served as Director of Tennis at Saltsjobaden Lawn Tennis Club in Stockholm and at Diamondhead Country Club in Mississippi. After suffering a lower back injury in tennis competition, Magnus received traditional medical care without much improvement. It was only after receiving massage therapy, chiropractic adjustments, and getting into yoga that he overcame his injuries. It was a defining moment in his life, inspiring him to learn the art and science of massage therapy and yoga.
Magnus has for the past 15 years studied with some of the world's best teachers in massage/myofascial therapy/energy work and yoga. AIS-Active Isolated Stretching-Aaron Mattes, Craniosacral Therapy-Upledger, Sports massage-Benni Vaughn and James Waslaski, Structural Integration-Tom Myers Rolfer (TM), Larry Phipps and Peter Ehlers, Deep Tissue-John Schewe Rolfer (TM), Thai Yoga Bodywork-Jonas Westring and Yoga-John Friend, Doug Keller, and Erich Schiffman in Yoga. Magnus is very influenced by the work of Dr. Johan Paldanius, learning specific stretching, trigger point therapy, kinetic massage and myofascial techniques, a Swedish Doctor of Naprapathy, that works with many Swedish Olympic athletes. And many more
I do not claim to be certified to teach by any of the teachers that I have studied with, but I do want to honor them for teaching me, and I teach and apply this work in my practice as it makes sense to me. Which is what i hope my students will do as well, so that all bodywork can continue to evolve and help many people.
Magnus has worked with medical doctors and chiropractors for several years in medical pain management and chiropractic centers. He has had his own thriving massage practice for 15 years. He has also been involved in many professional events providing sports massage. He has also provided Sports Massage for a Professional Hockey Team, and has worked with ATP tour tennis players. Magnus has also worked as the sports massage therapist and coordinator with NAIA Soccer top 10 team; William Carey College. He took the AMTA National Sports Massage exam, and became a member of the AMTA national sports massage team. (Exam was discontinued in the early 2000).
