Magnus Eklund. RMT, CYT is a massage therapist/teacher and yoga teacher, originally from Sweden, now residing in Jackson, MS with his wife Casey and their Lhasa Apso: Phoebe.He has received his training in the healing arts over the last 15 years, both in the USA and Sweden. Magnus holds a degree (1995) from Lillsved Gymnastic Institute of Higher Learning, Varmdo (Stockholm region), Sweden, in Recreational and Sports Leadership. His education included exercise physiology, sports administration, anatomy and physiology, coaching, psychology, and kinesiology.
Growing up in athletics in Sweden, Magnus experienced firsthand classical Swedish massage in sports as a tool to improve performance and to recover from competition. In the early 1990's, Magnus came to the United States to play college tennis. After going back to and completing his degree in Sweden, he came back to play and teach tennis professionally in Florida and Mississippi. Magnus served as Director of Tennis at Saltsjobaden Lawn Tennis Club in Stockholm and at Diamondhead Country Club in Mississippi. After suffering a lower back injury in tennis competition, Magnus received traditional medical care without much improvement. It was only after receiving massage therapy, chiropractic adjustments, and getting into yoga that he overcame his injuries. It was a defining moment in his life, inspiring him to learn the art and science of massage therapy and yoga.
Magnus has for the past 15 years studied with some of the world's best teachers in massage/myofascial therapy, Craniosacral Therapy, Sports massage, Structural Integration, Deep Tissue, Thai Yoga Bodywork and yoga. His influences also include Jonas Westring - Thai Yoga Bodywork; and John Friend, Doug Keller, and Erich Schiffman in Yoga. Magnus is very influenced by the work of Dr. Johan Paldanius, learning specific stretching, trigger point therapy, kinetic massage and myofascial techniques, a Swedish Doctor of Naprapathy, that works with many Swedish Olympic athletes.
Magnus has worked with medical doctors and chiropractors for several years in medical pain management and chiropractic centers. He has had his own thriving massage practice for 15 years. He has also been involved in many professional events providing sports massage. Among these are the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games as a member of the athletes medical team, the USA Track and Field Championships. He has also provided Sports Massage for a Professional Hockey Team, and has worked with ATP tour tennis players. Magnus has also worked as the sports massage therapist and coordinator with NAIA Soccer top 10 team; William Carey College. He took the AMTA National Sports Massage exam, and became a member of the AMTA national sports massage team. (Exam was discontinued in the early 2000). Massage therapists that passed the extensive written and practical exam were considered Sports Massage Specialists.
Magnus was the owner of Mind & Body Inc, one of the first yoga studios in Mississippi. He has provided corporate yoga classes on the Mississippi Coast as well. He taught sports massage for several years at Blue Cliff College, in Gulfport, MS.
He has been a continuing education provider for massage therapists since 1999. His main focus is European Kinetic Massage, Kinetic Deep Tissue and Thai Yoga Bodywork on the table, but he is also available for Sports Massage workshops. He is now teaching CEU workshops in Mississippi, Louisiana, and Alabama. Magnus is a NCBTMB-approved CEU provider.
Today, Magnus's home base is Jackson, MS, but he also has a clientel' in Gulfport, MS. He works by appointment only. Magnus welcomes the opportunity to provide CE massage therapy workshops throughout the United States and Sweden.
